10 things I wish I knew then that I definitely know now…

I’m 38. I’m not old. But my body, my laugh lines, and my stiff neck tell me I’m not young either. There are things that I’m not happy with in my current situations that I am ready to be rid of and done with. It got me thinking about what I would do different had I been given a second chance as well as what I will do now to remedy any of my regret. I doubt it will benefit anyone to put effort in to this list. I highly doubt my younger self would have retained and marinated this type of advice. I knew everything!

Dusky,

Listen up….

  1. Do NOT buy that handbag if you can’t keep the amount of what it costs in your bank amount week to week.
  2. The potential for things to go awry causes you so much fear that it incapacitates you. Stop allowing it to keep you from life.
  3. Be kinder. You’re downright evil to people sometimes. You seem to have forgotten what that feels like.
  4. Stop wasting energy on those who wouldn’t call you in an instant if they heard your mom had passed. Your mom is going to die and you’re going to realize who truly loves you.
  5. Stop criticizing yourself. You will never be that small again. Nor will you be that wrinkle-free. You’re really pretty when your not trying so hard.
  6. Love your mother. See #4. Tell her so too. And tell her she’s pretty.
  7. Accept opportunities. They might not be what you would typically desire, but they just might open your eyes to a new hobby, a fun experience, an unforgettable moment, or a new connection with someone who just might alter the entire path of your life.
  8. Question what people say. If it doesn’t feel right, it’s probably not.
  9. Capture the moment while you’re in it, when you are able. If not during, then soon after, via blogging, photography, a tattoo, etc. Some of my favorite memories remain so fresh in my mind and heart because I or someone else thought to photograph it our write it down.
  10. Love. Just simply love.
